The general public are likely to experience ongoing and justifiable high levels of fear and concern over health and public safety “The people living near masts are experiencing increasing health problems at levels as low as 0.05 volts per metre, especially sleep disruption, headaches, tiredness, behaviour changes in children, epilepsy, nosebleeds, skin complaints” Bamberg 2005 A European Union report (reflex report 2004) determined that “electromagnetic radiation emitted by cellphones and power lines can affect human cells at energy levels generally considered harmless” As the evidence is inconclusive, even the Stewart report ...May 2000 which did not find material evidence of health risks stated that a precautionary approach to the use of base stations should be taken. As the proposed mast is very near to residential homes, a medical centre, shops and two schools this represents an extremely serious health concern, especially in the light of health experts expressing high levels of concern. There is a proliferation of evidence (literally hundreds of reports) which leads to the safe conclusion that masts near homes and schools are extremely unwise. This site will make for a mast that is incredibly obtrusive, highly visible, and aesthetically catastrophic for everyone on Chatsworth Road and Storrs Road… and for people travelling through…. It will also attract the attention from the hundreds of school children that pass by every day. It is also on a route used by those coming from pubs late at night which will inevitably lead to vandalising or attempting to climb the mast.(Chatsworth Road is a very busy road used by Lorries and cars every day) if someone fell off the mast and landed in the road. Think what would happen! The Recycling units sited there are regularly subjected to defacement or damage. I have NEVER seen a mast in such a visible place. Why here? There are less obtrusive sites very near by. Indeed there is already a mast in “tree nook plantations” a very short distance away that serves Ashgate. I am mystified as to why this is not under consideration as it is quiet, not visible to the public and further from any residential homes and/or schools.
